How to Leverage AI for Social Media Marketing
Don’t fear the reaper, aka the soon-to-be robot overlords
Alright, maybe AI won’t turn into our robot overlords. At least not anytime soon. But smartly using artificial intelligence can help you improve your social media marketing and hopefully make the process more efficient.
Because let's face it: running your own business is like making a PB&J sandwich while surfing in Hawaii… during a tropical storm… You're wearing ALL the hats, and sometimes it feels like your social media strategy is that one sock that always disappears in the laundry – you know it's important, but where the heck is it?
That’s why this week I’m going to introduce you to your new best friend: AI for social media marketing.
AI (Artificial Intelligence) isn’t just for sci-fi movies or tech giants. It’s a tool that can help you streamline your social media efforts, save time and even boost your engagement. Whether you’re a one-person show or part of a team, AI can take some of the weight off your shoulders.
So, let’s dive into how you can leverage AI for social media marketing.

1. Content Creation: Meet Your Kryptonite for Writer’s Block
We've all been there – staring at a blank screen, willing clever captions to materialize. AI tools can help spark ideas, draft social media captions or even generate full blog posts.
But don't worry, it won't replace your unique voice. (Unless you don’t prompt it well or do a quick/copy paste without editing.) Think of AI tools as a brainstorming buddy, not a ghostwriter.
Try This: Jasper.ai or Copy.ai for content ideas and caption generation. Just feed them some info about your brand–describe what you want in the end, add details about the needed content, describe your audience and brand tone, etc–and watch the magic happen.
If you run ads on Facebook, tools like AdEspresso can help you create and test multiple ad variations.
2. Scheduling: Because Time Travel Isn't an Option (Unless You’re Doc Brown)
Consistency is key in social media, but who has time to post at optimal times every single day? AI-powered scheduling tools analyze when your audience is most active and post accordingly.
In fact, Facebook’s Meta Business Suite now has this built in so you can use it while scheduling content for Facebook or Instagram.
Try This: Hootsuite or Buffer with their AI-enhanced scheduling features. They’re able to look at previous interactions on your posts to see when the best time is to share new content for optimum engagement.
3. Analytics: Making Sense of the Numbers
Engagement metrics can feel like trying to read a foreign language at times. AI tools can translate those cryptic numbers into actionable insights. It's like having a data scientist on speed dial, minus the hefty consulting fee.
Try This: Sprout Social or Socialbakers for in-depth AI-powered analytics that most anyone can understand. Their digestible insights will help you see what is and isn’t working, along with where to pivot.
Oh hey there! Thanks for reading this far. I just wanted to let you know that I have some openings in my schedule for a few more consultations and marketing services. It’s all geared toward solopreneurs, artists, makers and small biz owners. Book now!
4. Hashtag Research: #NoMoreGuesswork
Finding the right hashtags can feel easy but quickly turn into a scrambled mess of letters. AI tools can suggest relevant, trending hashtags to boost your visibility to relevant social media users–who could turn into followers with the right hashtag find.
Try This: Flick or RiteTag to uncover hashtag gold without the endless scrolling.
Note: Don’t go too far down the rabbit hole with this. The algorithms tend to flip flop their focus on the importance of hashtags. Overall, ensure you’re creating engaging content.
5. Customer Service: So You Can Focus More on Content Creation
Keeping up with comments, messages and interactions can be overwhelming. You’ll still want to manually respond at times, but if you go viral or have a very engaging fan base, AI chatbots and sequences can help.
Some social media platforms have built-in tools for automated messaging and replies. You simply set up the prompts and replies, and the platform will run it from there.
Try This: AI chatbots like ManyChat or MobileMonkey can handle initial customer inquiries, respond to comments and even engage with followers. This frees up your time to focus on creating and planning rather than being stuck in endless and monotonous DMs.
6. Trend Analysis: Stay Ahead of the Game
AI tools can monitor social media trends and alert you when something relevant to your industry is gaining traction. This allows you to hop on trends early and keep your content fresh and engaging.
Try This: Tools like BuzzSumo and TrendSpottr can help you stay ahead of the game without sitting on social media, the news and Al Gore’s entire internet 24/7 to see what’s happening. TrendTok is a good tool to predict viral trends if you use TikTok.
Use AI to Focus on Your Strengths
Remember, AI isn't here to replace your creativity or authentic connection with your audience. It's here to amplify your efforts, giving you more time to focus on what you do best.
If you need help figuring out how to integrate AI into your workflow or how to use it in general, let’s chat! I’m also working on some AI-related resources, but would love to hear what you’re curious about and would like to learn. Let me know in the comments!
Take care, birdies! 💙
P.S. I prompted both ChatGPT and Claude to write this week’s newsletter. They had some eerily similar wording, so I made sure to rewrite sections and run the whole thing through a plagiarism checker. Just another reminder that AI can be great, but not perfect… yet…
